A Month In Review: April

A Month in review: April

The last month has been a whirlwind! We’ve been in our new house for officially a month now and couldn’t be happier. Buying a house was a huge milestone for us and took years of savings to accomplish but the whole process actually went pretty smoothly. But now we are in the renovation stage…

The first weekend we had the house we removed wallpaper and started painting! Removing wallpaper was not a fun process at all, it took three people and three days to get it completely off. We tried a couple different methods to taking it off but the one that worked the best was soaking the wall with water and letting it sit for about 5 minutes and then scrapping it off. Yep it was a pain…but the room looks so much better now! I decided to go with Simply White by Benjamin Moore and Shipwreck by Behr for the paint colors. We still need to get new flooring for this room and many others so I’ve been holding off on decorating for now but the new paint makes a huge difference already!

The living room and kitchen also got painted. I chose White Dove by Benjamin Moore for the walls. I want everything to be pretty neutral and bright on the walls so add in color through decorating and furniture.

Not only do we have renovations going on inside but we also have some outdoor chores we’ve been working on. First off, can I just say I am so grateful for this yard we have now! It’s amazing we lived as long as we did in tiny apartments with no backyards. Both Tyler and I grew up in homes with large backyards so now that we have our own, it’s so special. We couldn’t wait for the snow to melt so we could start on our yard work. I’ve got blisters on my hands but I’ve never enjoyed raking as much as I do now.

I’ve got more rooms to paint and flooring to pick out yet but the house is coming along! Besides house renovations, I’ve also read some great books and started a class on pattern design. I’m hoping to create a separate blog post about those in the future so I can dive a little deeper. It’s been a busy past month but one of the best so far.

I hope everyone is enjoying their spring and getting outside to enjoy the sunshine!
